Relaxing and quietness are, for sure, pilars for a vacation at Agriturismo Frattavecchia. Though, a stay with us means mainly the possibility of enjoying
arts,
culture and
traditions, since we are very close to important “cities of arts” within Tuscany and Umbria regions. A very strategic position for a trip between past and present times.
Frattavecchia, for example, is a
very small countryside village with about 40 inhabitants. It was built in the Medieval times around a monastery ( which was destroyed by fire later on), and that is the reason for its name which means “Old Piece”. In 1764 a little chapel dedicated to Saint Paul was built, and it still exists!
During the second world war Frattavecchia was the center of an intense battle between Axle and Allied armies and you can see, in some of its buildings, the signs of bullets in the external walls of some houses, a surviving proof of those bloody fights.
In the village there is also an area called “aia dei papi” which was the place where Popes used to stay during the pilgrimages across the Trasimeno lake, an area under the control of the Roman Catholic Church during those times.
All the area surrounding our agriturismo is perfect for walkings on foot, biking and riding.

Castiglione del Lago
Very close from us there is
Castiglione del Lago, a medieval
castle town over Trasimeno lake. It’s old center forms a peninsula “invading” the lake.
Castiglione del Lago is member of “Borghi piu belli d’Italia” and “Citta Slow” which are associations which assigns the most beautiful Italians burghs and those who preserve an old rhythm of life, slow and peaceful.
In the western part of the city there is the Palazzo Ducale, built by Ascanio della Corgna, an old nobleman part of one of the most important families during the 16th century. Inside you can admire several paintings, some of them from Niccolo Circignani, and continue your route till the medieval city walls.
We suggest to the lovers of gastronomy to try the local
restaurants of Castiglione del Lago and surroundings; all of them cook their specialities ( among them fishes from our lake) with the best extra virgin olive oil produced in our area, and serve their dishes with splendid local wines.
Trasimeno Lake
Nearby our agriturismo there are
beautiful villages such as Panicale, Paciano, Piegaro, Città della Pieve, Tuoro, Magione, Passignano and also two of the three islands of the lake which can be reached by boat: Polvese and Maggiore.
These villages, all of them have medieval origins, are linked by a common historical and artistical background.
Tuoro was the “stage” of the famous Battaglia di Annibale (Hannibal’s Battle) in 517 b.C., between the carthaginian troops and romans guided by Caio Flaminio.
A local and traditional handycraft market is also present in this area, as a sign of the importance of these places in remote times.
Umbria and Tuscany
And there are also
Perugia,
Assisi,
Cortona,
Montepulciano,
Siena,
Orvieto,
Firenze and
Rome…all of them complete the ideal travel into arts, splendid nature and landscapes of the center part of Italy…all of them easily reachable by train or car.
Every day you can choose one of these destinations and come back at the end of the day to relax in the
swimming pool, to play
tennis, to read a book immersed in the silence of our
olive grove, or simply to sit down while you admire the landscape of our lake, our countryside and the
Tuscanian and
Umbrian hills which surround our place, sensations that just Agriturismo Frattavecchia can offer to you.
Let arts, architecture, culture and people, landscapes, old villages ispire and enrich you. As it has been inspiring many poets and musicians along the years.
